Striker Timo Werner, who has been linked with Liverpool, has put his suitors on red alert by admitting that to reach the next level he will have to move on from RB Leipzig.

Werner's exploits at RB Leipzig have not gone unoticed, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp a big fan, while Bayern Munich have also been linked with seeing him as a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski.

And the 22-year-old knows that if he is to become world-class then he must eventually move on from RB Leipzig, as he looks towards featuring in the biggest games in European football.

He told German daily Welt: "To become a world-class player, I'll probably have to play in an even better team at club level.

"To become world-class you have to play big games, such as the final or the semi-final of the Champions League", Werner added.

But RB Leipzig will be reassured by the fact that Werner is in no rush to move on and insists that the coming World Cup is not something he sees as his chance to audition for a transfer to one of Europe's biggest clubs.

"I have four or five years to learn. And then to become world-class.

"The World Cup is not about auditioning for Barcelona, [Real] Madrid, Liverpool or whoever, but I want to become a [world] champion there [in Russia].

"And then I want to attack again with RB Leipzig", he added.

Should Werner impress at the World Cup, he could find himself given the chance to move to a bigger club sooner than he expects, though it is unclear what price RB Leipzig would put on his head.
