Tottenham Hotspur have made their presence felt in the race for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt by slapping in a big-money bid, it has been claimed.

The young Dutchman has impressed with his development at Ajax and is a senior Netherlands international despite being just 18 years old; De Ligt started in the Netherlands' friendly draw against Italy earlier this week.

Juventus want De Ligt and have shown him around their facilities, as well as Turin, but they look to be facing a big battle with Tottenham for his signature.

And Spurs have already moved to blow Juventus out of the water in the chase for De Ligt, it has been claimed.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Tottenham have put an offer of €55m on the table for the teenager.

The Italians may hope that De Ligt decides he wants to move to the club and as such the defender's desire tilts the scales in their favour.
