Manchester United have confirmed the signature of Brazilian international midfielder Fred from Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Premier League giants thrashed out a final agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk over the weekend as Fred arrived in England as part of Brazil squad for a pre-World Cup friendly.

The midfielder checked into Manchester United’s training ground and underwent a thorough medical before signing a contract. The fee is estimated to be £52m.

Jose Mourinho will be hopeful that Fred will be able to add some much needed steel and Brazilian flair to his midfield alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

Manchester United announced: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos."
