Former Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan will sign an initial two-year contract with Glasgow giants Rangers this summer.

The 25-year-old full-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers and made nine Championship appearances before returning to the Reds.

Liverpool decided to release Flanagan in the summer and Rangers have wasted little time to make a move for him to snap him up on a free transfer.

The defender has agreed terms on a contract with the Glasgow giants and, according to the Liverpool Echo, he will be signing an initial two-year deal with Rangers later today.

The Glasgow giants also have an option of extending the deal for another 12 months and the former Liverpool academy star will be looking to rebuild his career north of the border.

Flanagan will bid to impress as part of the Rangers squad at their pre-season training camp in Spain once the deal is completed.

The full-back was a major part of the Liverpool side that came close to winning the Premier League in the 2013/14 season.

Injuries derailed his development at Liverpool, but the defender will be looking forward to a fresh star under his former Reds captain Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
