Real Betis are prepared to table a bid with Sporting Lisbon for the signature of Everton linked midfielder William Carvalho this summer.

William is one of the several Sporting Lisbon players who have unilaterally terminated their contract with the club after a section of their supporters attacked the personnel and the coaching staff at their training base.

In theory, the midfielder is available on a free transfer and many clubs are considering signing him given his situation at the club, with Everton mooted as one of his suitors.

However, whether he could leave Sporting Lisbon this summer on a free transfer depends on a lengthy judicial process and according to Spanish daily AS, Betis are not prepared to take that chance.

It has been claimed that they are prepared to offer a club record fee of between €15m to €18m to Sporting Lisbon to take the Portugal international to Spain this summer.

Betis are aware that if Sporting Lisbon receive a favourable judicial verdict, any club signing William on a free transfer would be liable for heavy financial damages.

Therefore the Spanish outfit are not keen to play that high risk game and will conduct normal transfer negotiations with Sporting Lisbon for the midfielder.

Everton and Inter Milan have also been keeping tabs on the player, but with Betis prepared to offer a transfer fee, it could push them ahead in the race for William.
