Steven Gerrard has warned Rangers that the challenges in front of them are about to become a lot more difficult.

The former Liverpool midfielder had his first experience as Rangers manager at Ibrox on Friday night when they Gers tore English League Two side Bury apart to win a friendly clash 6-0.

They are now preparing for the serious business of a Europa League qualifier against FK Shkupi at Ibrox on Thursday night and Gerrard knows that the game will be a different animal.

"The fans are with us, and you could see that the other night and we have sold-out the first European game, so they want to come and they are ready to come with us", Gerrard told Rangers TV.

"But we have to accept that expectation and pressure that comes with that, and therefore play with responsibility.

"We did that against Bury, but the challenges are about to get a lot, lot harder", he added.

Rangers crashed out of the Europa League at the first hurdle last season under former boss Pedro Caixinha and Gerrard will be desperate to avoid replicating the disaster.

Following games home and away against Shkupi, Rangers have another friendly at Ibrox, welcoming Championship side Wigan Athletic as they continue to prepare for the start of the new Scottish Premiership campaign.
