Manchester City have not given up hope of signing Napoli midfielder Jorginho and believe that all the Chelsea talk is part of the Serie A giants’ transfer tactics.

The midfielder has agreed a contract with Manchester City, but the Premier League champions have been struggling to finalise an agreement with Napoli.

However, Chelsea barged into the negotiations at the eleventh hour and have reportedly hijacked Manchester City’s pursuit of their priority midfielder target this summer.

The Blues have agreed a deal worth €65m Napoli and Aurelio De Laurentiis announced today that Jorginho prefers a move to London, with a medical reportedly about to take place soon.

However, Manchester City do not believe the transfer saga has decisively turned towards Chelsea and, according to the Manchester Evening News, they feel all the talk of the midfielder moving to London is Napoli’s transfer tactics.

Manchester City have been unwilling to match Napoli’s financial demands and there are indications the Citizens feel by dragging Chelsea into the affair, the Serie A giants are trying to put pressure on them.

The Premier League champions believe they are still in the race, but it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to match Chelsea’s financial offer.

De Laurentiis indicated that Chelsea have also offered better contractual terms to Jorginho than Manchester City.
