Napoli are considering gambling big for Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian as the club remain desperate to sign a right-back.

Darmian’s future at Manchester United remains unresolved despite the player publicly stating that he wants to find a way out of Old Trafford this summer.

Jose Mourinho has made it clear that the club are yet to receive a suitable offer for the Italian and their financial demands have more or less killed his chance of joining Juventus.

Napoli are interested in taking him to Italy too, but they were reportedly reluctant to do a deal under the present financial conditions set by Manchester United.

But it seems their inability to secure a right-back this summer is changing attitudes at the San Paolo and according to Sky Italia, Napoli are now considering spending big money on Darmian.

Carlo Ancelotti wants to add a right-back to their squad, but Napoli have faltered in their attempts to sign one throughout the summer.

Manchester United are expected to demand at least €18m before agreeing to the defender’s sale and it has been claimed Napoli are warming up to the idea of gambling their money on Darmian.

An initial loan deal with an option to purchase has been mooted, but Manchester United could insist on an obligatory purchase clause to guarantee money for their coffers.
