Burnley have slapped in an improved bid for Middlesbrough centre-back Ben Gibson in their latest attempt to sign the defender, according to Sky Sports News.

Sean Dyche has identified the 25-year-old centre-back as one of his priority targets in the final few days of the transfer window and Burnley are pushing hard to take him to Turf Moor.

Middlesbrough have rejected an initial bid of £12m from the Clarets, but Burnley are keen to sign Gibson and it has been claimed that they are back with a fresh offer.

Now the Premier League outfit have put in an improved offer of £13m and are pushing to reach an agreement with Middlesbrough.

Tony Pulis is keen to keep hold of the defender but has conceded that if Gibson has an opportunity to play in the Premier League, he should seriously consider the offer.

Burnley are hopeful that they will be able to agree a fee with Boro over the next few days and get a deal over the line to sign the Englishman before the end of the transfer window next Thursday.

Gibson has been one of the top performers at Middlesbrough and didn’t harm his reputation in the top flight despite suffering relegation from the Premier League in 2016/17.

He has a contract until 2022 with the Riverside outfit.
