Gonzalo Higuain says that only Maurizio Sarri wanted him at Chelsea, which helped make his decision to join AC Milan all the easier.

The Argentina international striker is joining the Rossoneri from Juventus in an eye-catching swapping of two big Serie A clubs; he has signed on a season-long loan deal worth €18m, with an option to buy set at €36m.

It had been thought Higuain could reunite with his former coach at Napoli, Sarri, at Chelsea, but the Blues appear not to have been keen on a deal.

The striker says that at Stamford Bridge only Sarri was driving the deal, while at AC Milan, everyone at the club was desperate to see him sign.

He told a press conference: "I have a lot of respect for Sarri.

"But he was the only one at Chelsea who wanted me.

"Here at AC Milan, everybody wanted me.

"That is why I chose the Rossoneri", Higuain added.

He has been given the number 9 shirt by AC Milan and will be expected to fire the club back into the Champions League.

But Higuain is sure he can cope with the pressure and is confident of hitting the heights at the San Siro due to the trust placed in him.

"No [it’s no pressure wearing number 9], but it is a source of pride to wear it.

"Milan must have confidence in me and believe that I can do great things."
