Napoli are counting on super agent Jorge Mendes convincing Manchester United to lower their financial expectations for Matteo Darmian.

Darmian’s future remains unresolved despite the defender publicly stating that he could leave Manchester United this summer and is keen to return to Italy.

A move to Juventus is unlikely to go through despite the player agreeing terms with the club as the Italian champions have failed to reach an agreement with Manchester United.

Napoli are reportedly prepared to gamble big on Darmian, but at the moment they are also in talks with Lille for Kevin Malcuit as an alternative to the Manchester United man.

The Serie A giants are confident of agreeing a deal with Lille, but are stalling on the negotiations as, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the club are employing Mendes’ help to negotiate a deal for the Manchester United star.

Napoli are leaning on the Portuguese super agent to convince Manchester United to drop their financial demands for the defender and look to agree a negotiated a fee.

If Manchester United are prepared to lower their asking price, Napoli are ready to offer a long and lucrative contract to Darmian.

But under the present conditions, Napoli believe there is little financial sense in signing the 28-year-old.
