The agent of Chelsea target Daniele Rugani has insisted that Juventus’ transfer stance on his client has remained consistent throughout.

Maurizio Sarri identified the 23-year-old centre-back as one of his priority targets and Chelsea held multiple rounds of talks with Juventus over taking him to west London.

The Blues also tabled a €55m bid with Juventus for Rugani, but once the Italian champions decided to sell Mattia Caldara to AC Milan, it became clear the Chelsea target would not be allowed to leave.

Davide Torchia, the defender’s agent, is aware of Sarri’s interest in signing Rugani, but stressed that Juventus remained very consistent on their stance of not selling the 23-year-old.

And he believes Juventus’ decision to allow Caldara to leave and hold on to Rugani showed how much the Italian champions are keen to keep his client at the club.

Torchia told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli: “For the last three years Sarri has tried to take him to Napoli and now that he is at Chelsea, he would like to take him.

“An offer was made, with a high valuation, but Juventus have always reiterated that he is not for sale.

“By selling Caldara and holding on to him, it was consistent [from Juventus].”

With five days left in the window, Chelsea have only added Jorginho to a squad that finished fifth in the Premier League last season.
