Juventus are preparing to offer a new contract to Chelsea defensive target Daniele Rugani at the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea have been keen to sign the player and have held multiple rounds of negotiations with Juventus in order to take Rugani to west London this summer.

However, the goalposts in the transfer saga shifted once Juventus decided to allow Mattia Caldara join AC Milan in exchange for Leonardo Bonucci’s return to Turin.

The Italian champions are no longer interested in selling Rugani and his agent has indicated that it is unlikely his client will be joining Chelsea this summer.

Juventus are planning to hold on to the 23-year-old centre-back and according to Italian broadcaster Rai Sport, they are preparing a new contract for the player.

It has been claimed that the Italian champions could hold talks with the defender’s agent in September and offer Rugani a fresh and improved contract.

Chelsea are prepared to offer him a deal worth €4.5m per season, but for the moment it seems unlikely that the player will be joining the Blues.

Juventus are claimed to be prepared to offer him a contract worth €3m per season, a jump of around 50 per cent from his current wages.
