Newcastle United linked striker Isaac Thelin is close to swapping Anderlecht for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

The 26-year-old Sweden international spent last season on loan from Anderlecht at Waasland-Beveren and had an impressive season.

Thelin netted 19 goals in 36 games as he caught the eye and he is now likely to be playing his football outside Belgium in the new season.

Newcastle have been linked with wanting to sign Thelin but, according to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws, Leverkusen are closing in on his signature.

Anderlecht signed Thelin, initially on loan, from French club Bordeaux.

They signed him on a permanent basis last summer, but then instantly sent him on loan to Waasland-Beveren.

Anderlecht are now set not to enjoy the services of Thelin for a full campaign as the Swede is heading to Germany.

Thelin, who also counts Karlslunds, Norrkoping and Malmo amongst his former clubs, was included in Sweden's squad for the World Cup.
