Federico Fernandez is on his way to Newcastle United for a medical after Swansea City accepted a bid from the Magpies.
Rafael Benitez wants to sign a centre-back on deadline day and the Swansea defender has emerged as the club’s top target in the final hours of the transfer window.
For a while it seemed Newcastle might not sign the Argentine as Swansea were refusing to lower their £10m asking price for the centre-back, but it seems a compromised has been reached.
According to the Chronicle, Swansea have accepted a bid from Newcastle for Fernandez in the last hour and the player is now expected to join the Premier League outfit.
The 29-year-old has already left for Newcastle, where he is expected to hold talks with the club over personal terms and undergo a medical.
Newcastle are not anticipating any more hurdles towards signing Fernandez as the player has been keen on a move in order to work under Benitez and return to the Premier League.
The club are looking to rush through the rest of the formalities of the transfer in order to get the deal over the deal before 5pm today.
