Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of midfielder Josh Windass from Rangers, with the man concerned admitting the decision was not an easy one to make.

The Championship side have swooped to secure Windass' services and the midfielder has put pen to paper to a three-year contract at the DW Stadium.

Windass admits the move came out of the blue, but overall he feels the right decision has been made, with a test awaiting at Wigan.

Leaving Rangers however was not a simple call for Windass to take.

He told his new club's official site: "It’s been a strange day; I woke up this morning to get to Ibrox to get on the coach to play in the game tonight and then next minute I get a phone call and I’m here to do a medical.

"It wasn’t an easy decision to make to be honest because I’ve been playing a lot at Rangers, but I spoke to the manager this morning when I got the call and I felt the best thing was to come here to try and prove myself and get this team up the league", Windass added.

Rangers signed Windass from English side Accrington Stanley following the expiration of his contract and quickly started to make an impact, scoring 19 goals in 41 games for the Ibrox giants.

In a sign of how big a role Wigan expect Windass to play going forward, they have handed him the number 10 shirt.
