Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has played down transfer links with Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke.

Gerrard has been tipped to use his connections at Anfield to take the former Chelsea hitman to Ibrox this summer, as he bids to keep strengthening his squad.

Liverpool could let Solanke go, potentially on loan, and a move to another side in the Premier League is now off the table after the league closed its window on Thursday.

But Gerrard is in no mood to add fuel to the transfer talk and dubbed it speculation.

Asked at a press conference whether Solanke could be arriving from Liverpool, Gerrard replied: "It's speculation, it's just speculation."

Solanke could struggle for playing time if he stays at Liverpool.

While the striker made 21 appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool last season, they spanned just 581 minutes.

Solanke scored just once for the Reds last season and is under contract at Anfield until the summer of 2022.
