Josh Windass says that the decision to join Wigan Athletic from Rangers was a no-brainer.

Wigan swooped to sign Windass from Rangers on Thursday, quickly doing the deal and taking the midfielder from Ibrox, where he had been due to be involved in the Gers' squad for a Europa League meeting with Maribor.

The Latics have locked Windass down to a three-year contract at the DW Stadium, while they have also handed him the number 10 shirt in a sign of the key role he will play.

And Windass, who has admitted leaving Rangers was hard, feels that, knowing Wigan boss Paul Cook and his sides, the move was a no-brainer.

"I’ve played against the manager’s teams a few times when I was at Accrington and I know a couple of the backroom staff here, so it was a no-brainer for me", Windass told his new club's official site.

"I know a couple of the lads too having played against them so it’s a good squad and I’m looking forward to it."

Windass got forward from midfield to score 18 goals in 41 games for Rangers last season and was expected to be heavily involved for the Gers this term.

The midfielder is expected to make his debut for Wigan on Saturday when the Latics are in Championship action away at Aston Villa.
