Rangers boss Steven Gerrard feels that it is clear to see the quality new signing Borna Barasic has, with the Croatian performing well on his debut, a 2-0 win over St Mirren.

The Gers swooped to snap up Barasic from Croatian side NK Osijek, after spotting his talent in a Europa League tie which the Scottish giants won.

Gerrard wasted no time in throwing the 25-year-old into the mix against Alan Stubbs' St Mirren and he quickly settled down, providing the free kick assist for Rangers' second goal, scored by Connor Goldson.

The Rangers boss is thrilled with the Croatia international and feels it is clear to see why he was signed.

"I thought it was a very strong debut. I think you can see quite clearly the quality he is going to bring to our left-hand side", Gerrard told Rangers TV.

"He gives us the options to also use a back five if we want to use him as a wing-back because he is so comfortable high up the pitch."

Barasic was brought off on the 62 minute mark and Gerrard says he had no option, as the Gers were already down to ten men and the Croatian was on a yellow card.

"So it was a strong performance but I was left with no choice, especially when we went to 10 men.

"He was on a yellow card as well so I had to make a decision for the sake of the team and that is the reason he only played an hour.

"But it was a very strong performance and he’s going to be a good player for this football club."

Barasic has won three caps at international level for Croatia and was included in the country's preliminary squad for the summer's World Cup in Russia.

He has been handed the number 31 shirt at Ibrox.
