Liverpool legend Gary Gillespie has admitted he will be surprised if the Reds do not lift a trophy this season.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has spent heavily over the summer transfer window, reinforcing a side that reached the final of the Champions League last term.

The Reds kicked off their Premier League push on Sunday by brushing aside another team to have spent substantially in the transfer market, West Ham.

Liverpool recorded a 4-0 win over the Hammers and never looked troubled all afternoon at Anfield, as they collected the three Premier League points on offer.

Gillespie knows that having spent big money, there will be pressure on Liverpool to deliver.

But after watching Liverpool dismantle West Ham, the former Reds defender is convinced that Klopp can deliver a trophy.

Speaking on LFC TV after the match, Gillespie said: "When you spend £170m it brings pressure, but from what we have seen today, they are perfectly capable of winning something.

"I will be surprised if we don't win something this year."

Liverpool will be fighting on four fronts, with the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and the Champions League to go for.

Klopp has reached three finals with the Reds since taking over in 2015, but has lost every one.
