Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg have cooled their interest in Genoa midfielder Diego Laxalt, who was wanted by West Ham United during the Premier League transfer window.

The midfielder's agent claimed West Ham made an offer for his client, but Genoa have been determined only to let the Uruguayan leave on their terms.

Zenit have been lining up an €18m swoop for Laxalt, but according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the Russians are now having second thoughts and cooling their interest.

Laxalt could have another option to leave Genoa this summer though.

Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon are interested in Laxalt, but are thinking more along the lines of a loan with a right to buy.

It remains to be seen if Sporting Lisbon can make progress with a swoop for Laxalt, but Genoa want to bring in a replacement before letting him go.

As such, the midfielder could still be at Genoa when the transfer window closes this summer.

And if that is the case, it remains to be seen if West Ham rekindle their interest in January.
