Rangers academy director Craig Mulholland has expressed his hope to see youngster Jamie Barjonas enjoy a successful loan spell at Bury, raising the prospect of more Gers talents moving to Gigg Lane to cut their teeth.

The young midfielder has been sent out to the English League Two side on a six-month loan deal, as he looks to gain more first team experience before returning to Ibrox.

Bury are managed by Ryan Lowe, a man close to Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, and Mulholland hopes that the association between the two will be helpful in helping more and more players travel the road from Scotland to England in the future.

And that Mulholland believes will be beneficial for the Rangers academy, which will have more and more payers ready to burst into the first team.

“We are delighted that Jamie has joined Bury on loan as the EFL will provide a different stimulus for him, achieving first-team minutes to better equip him to come back and compete for a place in the Rangers team", Mulholland told his club's official website.

“[Director of football] Mark Allen and the manager, Steven Gerrard, have really good contacts at Bury and if it is successful for Jamie then we could build a relationship which may see other Academy players move there in the future."

Barjonas has managed a total of nine Scottish Premiership appearances for his team since being promoted to senior level in 2016.

He will be hoping to impress at Bury and win a chance back at Ibrox in January.
