Bury boss Ryan Lowe has admitted a recommendation from Rangers boss Steven Gerrard meant he did not think twice when it came to signing Jamie Barjonas on loan.

The English League Two side have snapped up the teenage midfielder on a loan deal running through until January.

Barjonas has played senior first team football at Rangers, but Gerrard is looking for the midfielder to hone his skills and is trusting Lowe's Bury to provide the right enviroment.

For Lowe, Gerrard's recommendation of Barjonas made agreeing to loan the midfielder a no brainer, while the youngster also impressed in training at Bury.

Lowe told Bury's official site: "I'm delighted to have signed Jamie on loan until January.

"We were looking for another player in that area, and with the links between Bury and Rangers, and myself and Steven Gerrard, upon enquiry Jamie came highly recommended.

"I think when someone like Steven Gerrard recommends to you a midfielder with the career he has had then you don't look twice at it; you've got to take it, and that's what we've done.

"Jamie came down to train with us for a few days, and he was outstanding in training; he fitted the bill for what we are after.

"I'm really looking forward to working with him from now until January", the Bury boss added.

Bury sit in eleventh place in League Two following two games so far this season, while they were in EFL Cup action on Tuesday night, going out 10-9 on penalties against Nottingham Forest after a 1-1 draw.

Lowe's men are next in action this weekend when they play host to Forest Green at Gigg Lane.
