Rangers development coach Graeme Murty has revealed that he is impressed by the performance of Glenn Middleton and the other youngsters looking to break into the first team at Ibrox.

Murty, who was in charge of the first team last year, was replaced by Steven Gerrard and the 43-year-old admitted that he had no intention of walking out on the club despite the Gers deciding to replace him.

The ex-Scotland international was relieved of his duties as manager of the club in April after an embarrassing 5-0 loss to arch-rivals Celtic and his decision to stay and help out the youngsters at Ibrox came as a surprise to many.

However, Murty claimed that he had never thought of leaving the club and also acknowledged the fact that he is relishing his new role of helping the stars of tomorrow break into the first team.

Middleton, who joined Rangers under Murty after Norwich City let him go in January, has impressed with his performances and the former Rangers coach did not shy away from showering praise on the youngster.

“I’ve known Glenn for a long time and when I heard he was coming out of Norwich it was a no-brainer to bring him in”, Murty told the Scottish Sun.

“It isn’t just what he brings in terms of what you can see on the pitch, it is the person he is and I knew he would fit into our ethos.

“I’m not surprised he’s in Steven’s plans because I know the mind set he has and he’s constantly improving and pushing himself every day.

“I couldn’t be more pleased and it’s put a bit of hunger into the other boys and they want a taste of the first-team, which is good to see”, he added.

Rangers will face Maribor in the third round of the Europa League qualifying later tonight in Slovenia.
