Mauricio Pochettino has conceded it is disappointing that Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium is not ready in time for the Liverpool game next month, but stressed the importance of the fans remaining patient as it is a massive project by the club.

Tottenham were slated to play their first game at their new stadium against Liverpool next month, but the game has been shifted to Wembley for safety reasons along with another home game against Cardiff.

The north London club are racing against time to unveil the stadium in time to face Manchester City on 28th October and have been given time until the end of the month to confirm the venue.

Tottenham fans have been left frustrated by the delay and many have paid a premium for their season tickets at the new stadium, which has led to complaints.

Pochettino admits that it is a disappointment that their new home ground is not ready at the moment but believes Spurs fans should support the club as it has been a huge project.

He urged the fans to understand how big a deal the stadium will be for the club’s future once it is ready.

The Tottenham manager said in a press conference: "We have tried to build the new stadium to arrive on time.

“It was a massive effort which we feel every day, but to not deliver it for the Liverpool game is a disappointment.

"We will be positive and adapt to the moment we play in our new stadium, but for now, we have a few games left against Liverpool and Cardiff and we will try to show a good performance.

"We need to be all together and our fans have to understand that this huge project will be for them and for the club forever.

“For reasons that are not in our hands it hasn't happened, and I understand fans' issues with money and tickets but I want to say sorry and apologise and repay them by winning games."

Tottenham are in talks with the Premier League about a possible change of dates and alternative venues for the Manchester City game as Wembley won’t be available due to a prior commitment to staging an NFL game.
