Newcastle United and Genoa are not yet in agreement over a deal to take left-sided player Achraf Lazaar back to Italy.

Lazaar signed a five-year contract with Newcastle when he joined the club from Palermo in 2016, but he has failed badly at St. James' Park.

The Moroccan spent last season on loan at Benevento and has no future at Newcastle, with the Magpies bidding to ship him out.

Genoa are in talks with Newcastle to land Lazaar, but according to Sky Italia, the two clubs disagree about the deal.

The Italian side want to sign Lazaar on loan with an option to buy him later if he impresses.

But Newcastle want the purchase option to take the form of an obligation to buy, which would guarantee Lazaar's permanent departure from St. James' Park.

The 26-year-old defender is keen to relaunch his career and Genoa are willing to give Lazaar that opportunity.

And the clock is ticking to agree a deal, with the Italian transfer window due to close on Friday.
