Southampton have beaten off competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Switzerland Under-17 striker Alexandre Jankewitz, it has been claimed.

Currently playing for Swiss outfit Servette’s academy, the young midfielder has been attracting the attention of scouts across Europe with his performances at youth level.

He has already been capped by Switzerland Under-16 and Under-17 teams and is considered a huge prospect in Swiss football for the coming years.

Manchester United and Tottenham have been keeping tabs on his development and even Juventus were claimed to be interested in taking him to England.

But according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Southampton have won the race to sign the 16-year-old midfielder from Servette and are expected to get the deal over the line soon.

The Saints have reached an agreement over a fee with the Swiss outfit and have agreed to fork out a sum of €1.5m for the teenage midfielder.

With the Premier League transfer window closed, Jankewitz is expected to link up with the south coast club when the transfer window opens in January.

The youngster has snubbed interest from Champions League clubs to commit his future to Southampton, who are known for developing young players.
