Former Scotland star James McFadden has questioned whether Bordeaux have been encouraged to make a move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos by an agent.

Bordeaux recently slapped in a bid of £3.75m to sign the Colombian hitman, but Rangers knocked it back, feeling it significantly undervalues Morelos.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is keen to keep hold of Morelos as he looks to build his side's attacking play around the striker.

McFadden admits that Morelos' agent could be fishing for a new contract for his client, but the agent could also have encouraged Bordeaux to make a move.

"Usually there is a reason these clubs come in", McFadden said on BBC Sportsound Facebook Live when asked about Bordeaux's bid for Morelos.

"Is an agent sounding Bordeaux out, [or] trying to get Morelos a better contract, which he has already done in January.

"I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a new contract.

"But Bordeaux are still a big club in France", he added.

Bordeaux are desperate to land a new striker before the transfer window slams shut in France at the end of the month and could come calling with an improved offer to take Morelos to Ligue 1.
