Nice coach Patrick Vieira has expressed his delight at landing striker Myziane Maolida, who was wanted by Newcastle United this summer.

Newcastle opened talks with Lyon in a bid to sign Maolida, but found Les Gones not ready to play ball and negotiations went nowhere.

Nice recently made their move for Maolida and with the Premier League transfer window closed, Newcastle were out of the picture, not able to take advantage of Lyon's new willingness to sell.

And Vieira is delighted to land the 19-year-old, who has cost Nice a fee of €10m, and whom he is sure will add much to his side's attacking edge.

"He is a reinforcement", Vieria told French daily the Nice-Matin.

"In this transfer window we intended to bring in attacking players to the team and he is an arrival who will do us a lot of good.

"He is very comfortable with the ball, he is very good in one-on-ones, he likes to go forward.

"He will be in the squad for the trip to Caen. We can imagine him slotting into the attack", the Nice boss added.

Lyon have a 30 per cent sell-on clause included in the deal with Nice, meaning they will make extra money when the south coast club eventually sell the striker.

Maolida will be looking to kick on with his development under Arsenal legend Vieira.
