Rangers youngster Glenn Middleton has admitted he is a big admirer of Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

Middleton has impressed Rangers boss Steven Gerrard over the course of the summer, being added to the first team squad and seeing his talent talked up at Ibrox.

He was an unused substitute on Thursday night as Rangers booked their spot in the playoff round of the Europa League by seeing off Slovenian side Maribor.

And Middleton looks to the very top of the game when he is chasing inspiration.

The youngster told Rangers TV: "I've always looked up to Gareth Bale as a player.

"He's always been my favourite.

"Gareth Bale again [is my football idol]", Middleton added.

Middleton has clocked up 37 minutes across Rangers' Europa League qualifying campaign so far and will be gunning for game time in the Scottish League Cup when the Gers take on Kilmarnock this weekend.

Bale meanwhile is expected to play a key role at Real Madrid this season following Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Juventus earlier this summer.
