Former Scotland international James McFadden has admitted that he fails to comprehend the thinking process behind Celtic re-signing Emilio Izaguirre.

The 32-year-old played for the Bhoys from 2010 to 2017 and then completed a move to Saudi Arabia where he joined Al-Fayha.

He though recently decided to terminate his contract with the Saudi club and was available as a free agent. The Bhoys wasted no time in snapping him up as cover for Kieran Tierney.

McFadden though fails to understand why the Hoops signed their former player as he feels that the Scottish champions need fresh faces, whether it is to provide competition to the others or to give a lift to the dressing room.

"Izaguirre coming back in", McFadden said on BBC Sportsound Facebook Live.

"I don't get that signing for me.

"He isn't a fresh face.

"They need a fresh face, whether it is to give competition for places or to give a little bit of a lift in the dressing room with a different dynamic."

Brendan Rodgers' side meanwhile have completed the signing of Daniel Arzani from Manchester City.

It remains to be seen what other business they will do this summer.
