Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will not be needing surgery to repair his injured knee following further tests in Barcelona.

The Belgian midfielder injured his knee in training earlier this week and was seen on crutches at a Manchester City event, leading to speculation over the extent of the problem.

The midfielder has reportedly injured his lateral ligament and flew down to Barcelona for further tests and a consultation with a knee specialist.

And according to Belgian daily Het Nieuwsblad, De Bruyne has avoided the possibility of going under the knife and will not be needing knee surgery to fix the problem.

The doctors are yet to determine how long the midfielder will be out of action for Manchester City and a final decision on his recovery and recuperation will be taken later today.

The injury is believed to be similar to the one he sustained a couple of years ago and he is expected to be out for close to two to three months.
