Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies insists that there are no certainties that defender Dedryck Boyata will be sold this summer and has asked the fans not to criticise him.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Celtic Park this summer, with fuel to fire being added when the player ruled himself out of the second leg of the Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens, in spite of manager Brendan Rodgers saying that the defender was fit.

The Belgian's absence was strongly felt as his side eventually lost the match 2-1 and went out of the tournament 3-2 on aggregate.

Davies admits that the situation with Boyata is complex, with the player's representatives claiming that the club blocked a move to Fulham.

Davies though insists that it would be wrong to vilify anyone in particular and insists that there is chance that Boyata might still be a Celtic player when the window shuts on 31st August.

"There is no point vilifying anybody or blaming one individual", Davies was quoted as saying by BBC.

"Obviously there has been a lot of frustration from the supporters.

"But, as it stands, he is still a Celtic player and that may well be the case when the window shuts, so we can't say he will be leaving the club."

Boyata has yet to play for the Scottish champions this season and is pushing to be sold.
