Frosinone sporting director Stefano Capozucca has admitted that his side tried hard to win the race for Spanish striker Lucas Perez, who joined West Ham United this summer.

The Italian Serie A side wanted to land a striker this summer and set their sights on taking Perez from Arsenal.

It was considered an ambitious swoop and Frosinone showed the striker around their facilities as they sought to win the race.

But it became clear that Perez would be moving elsewhere and he headed to join West Ham United for a fee of £4m.

Capozucca feels that it was right to go for Perez, but admits talks were difficult.

"The negotiations were difficult, but nothing is impossible, we tried", Capozucca told Lalaziosiamonoi.

"The interest was strong", he added.

Perez spent last season on loan in Spain with boyhood club Deportivo La Coruna, but could not help the side avoid relegation from La Liga.

The striker was out of favour at the Emirates Stadium and is now looking to take his chance in the Premier League under Manuel Pellegrini at the London Stadium.
