Steven Gerrard thinks Rangers have been asking a lot of centre-backs Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson, with another defender needing to be added to the ranks at Ibrox.

The Gers are looking to make additions to their squad over the course of the month as they aim to hand Gerrard the best group to go into battle with.

Both Katic and Goldson are summer arrivals and have impressed Gerrard with their displays in the heart of the Rangers defence so far, helping the club through to the Europa League playoff round.

But Gerrard believes they could need a break and cover must be brought in.

"Also at centre-back we're quite light", Gerrard told a press conference.

"We're asking a lot of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson, who have been absolutely tremendous for us so far.

"We would like some cover in that area."

It remains to be seen who Gerrard might make a move for, but Rangers have until the end of the month to finalise their defensive options until at least the January transfer window.

Rangers, who will play Russia side Ufa in the Europa League playoff round, face Kilmarnock in the Scottish League Cup next, on Sunday.
