Manuel Pellegrini believes last season's struggles are still in the minds of his West Ham stars after the Hammers lost 2-1 at home against Bournemouth.

West Ham were crushed 4-0 at Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season and were hoping to bounce back at the London Stadium against the Cherries.

West Ham did take the lead when Marko Arnautovic converted from the penalty spot just after the half hour mark, but Bournemouth levelled through Callum Wilson in the 60th minute.

Steve Cook headed the winner for the Cherries when he connected with a free-kick ball from Ryan Fraser six minutes later.

And it with West Ham having no reply, they have now lost their opening two league games, despite a summer of heavy spending.

Pellegrini says he always knew it would take time for his squad to gel, while last season's troubles are continuing to play on his men's minds.

"We knew before we would need time with new players and management", he told a press conference.

"We need to forget last season and recover the trust as a club.

"I think so [that last season is still on my players’ minds]."

West Ham, who are rock bottom of the Premier League table, next face a trip to London rivals Arsenal next Saturday, before then having a break from league action with a trip to Wimbledon in the EFL Cup.
