Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa conceded that his side made mistakes in the first half against Rotherham and struggled to impose their style in their 2-0 win at Elland Road.

Goals from Luke Ayling and Kemar Roofe in the second half earned the three points for Leeds as they continued their good start to the season under Bielsa.

However, Rotherham made it uncomfortable for Leeds in the first half and came close to scoring a couple of times before the break before the Whites took charge in the second half.

Bielsa admits that it was a typically hard fought Championship game and despite all the talk of his style at the start of the season, his Leeds side struggled for rhythm in the first half and made mistakes, which could have led to Rotherham scoring.

He conceded that his side need to respect opponents while still trying to play their own brand of football this season.

The Leeds manager said in a press conference after the game: “Unlike the first two games, today it looked more like a Championship game.

“As you saw we could have ended the first half by conceding goals. They have clear moments where they could have scored a goal and these actions were provoked by the mistakes we made.

“We made some mistakes when we built from the back, the offensive transition of the opponents were faster than the time we took to get back and they won some 50-50 balls.

“This indicates that the style had some difficulties to impose itself and we have to respect the other ways of understanding the game.

“When you play while respecting the style, sometimes you have positive consequences and sometimes negative ones.

“Anyway, we deserved to win the game.”

Leeds will next travel to Wales to take on Swansea City on Tuesday night.
