Rangers assistant boss Gary McAllister has admitted that the Gers put pressure on Alfredo Morelos to get fitter over pre-season and hold the belief if he sorts his body out he can hit the next level.

Morelos has started the campaign in good fashion for Rangers and scored a hat-trick on Sunday as the Gers beat Kilmarnock 3-1 in the Scottish League Cup to book a quarter-final tie against Ayr United.

His exploits have even seen him become the subject of interest from French side Bordeaux, who recently saw a £3.75m bid rejected.

McAllister is full of praise for Morelos and says the Rangers coaching staff believe if they get the striker fitter then he can reach the next level.

"He's bought into the whole ethos, was put under pressure to get fitter because we think his game can move into another level if he gets his body right", McAllister said on Rangers TV.

"He's completely bought into it and it's nice to see a player playing with a smile.

"He's enjoying himself", the Rangers assistant added.

Rangers may be tested again by clubs keen on Morelos before the end of the month, but boss Steven Gerrard has made clear that he views the Colombian as a key player and only an eye-watering offer could lead to his departure.
