Rangers assistant coach Gary McAllister is delighted with the mix of players at Steven Gerrard's disposal and believes rotation will especially be needed if the Gers can continue their run in the Europa League.

Gerrard's side are unbeaten this season and are within touching distance of the Europa League group stage, with just a playoff round tie against Russians FC Ufa to navigate.

The Ibrox giants have been busy in the summer transfer window, reshaping the squad, and are expected to make additions before the window slams shut in Scotland at the end of the month.

McAllister is already happy with the squad he is working with at the club and believes that the Gers have six quality midfielders who can operate in a number of different formations.

And he expects rotation to be needed all the more if progress in Europe is made.

"I just like the mix", he told Rangers TV, when asked about the squad.

"We've got a nice mix of experience, we've got a bit of true grit, we've got people who can handle the ball very well.

"So there's loads of combinations the manager can use.

"That's going to be the case because we want to continue the run in Europe, so we need a squad.

"I see that we've got five, six quality midfielders, which we can rotate and play in different formations."

Rangers face Ufa at Ibrox in the first leg of their Europa League playoff round tie on Thursday night.

The Gers have also progressed in the Scottish League Cup, booking a quarter-final meeting with Ayr United after seeing off Kilmarnock 3-1 on Sunday.
