Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed that he is happy with his side's Scottish League Cup quarter-final draw against Ayr United, but stressed the Gers must make sure there is no shock at Ibrox.

The Light Blues cruised to a comfortable 3-1 win over Kilmarnock in the second round of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday, courtesy of a hat-trick from Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers had struggled for results at Rugby Park since being promoted back into the top flight, failing to win in any of their three league games in Kilmarnock’s backyard, but looked like a more complete outfit during their win.

The Gers are now poised to meet Ayr in the quarter-final of the competition at Ibrox next month and Gerrard has admitted that he is happy with the draw that decided the fixtures for the last eight.

“I am happy with the draw, I am always happy to get a home draw and I think in these competitions, you learn over the years, you just face whatever is thrown at you”, Gerrard told Rangers TV.

“It is Ayr United of the Championship this time; they are on the back of a good result.

"I think they come as underdogs to Ibrox so it will be our responsibility to make sure they don’t put a shock on”, he added.

Rangers will now face FC Ufa in the first leg of their Europa League playoff round tie on Thursday, before travelling to Motherwell in the league on Sunday.
