Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has admitted he would have taken the Swansea City job in 2015, but the Welsh giants chose someone else.

Bielsa currently has Leeds tearing the Championship apart and the Whites have won all three of their opening league matches.

The work the Argentine has done since taking over in the summer has been lauded in many quarters, but it could have been a different story if Bielsa had taken over at the Liberty Stadium in 2015.

Swansea held talks with Bielsa and the Argentine tactician admits he was prepared to take the job and engaged in positive discussions.

But Swansea picked someone else and the Leeds boss feels talks being in the middle of the season also made it difficult.

"Yes it was a real possibility", Bielsa told a press conference when asked about the chatter around him taking the Swansea job in 2015.

"Yes [I came close to taking the job].

"I was willing to work at Swansea, but at the end they chose somebody else.

"I don't remember very well.

"I think they wanted to start the season, not to come in the middle of the season, and the contact I got was in the middle of the season.

"It didn't make it easy to reach an agreement.

"But I have good memories of the dialogues I had with Swansea."

Bielsa takes his Leeds side to Swansea on Tuesday night for a Championship clash and the Argentine will hope his Whites side show the hosts what they missed out on three years ago.
