Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie has admitted that he hopes to upset some of his friends with a win over his former club Leeds United on tonight in the Championship.

McBurnie, who was part of the academy at Elland Road before being released in 2013, revealed ahead of the fixture that some of his close friends are diehard fans of the west Yorkshire club.

Following his release from the Whites’ academy five years ago, the striker joined Bradford City and his journey has further brought him a long way south to Wales with Swansea, where he has established himself as a regular under Graham Potter this season.

McBurnie has played a starting role in all three league games so far this season and also scored in the Swans’ opening day win over Sheffield United.

The 22-year-old, who impressed again during the 0-0 draw away to Birmingham City on Saturday, is now hopeful of getting one over his friends with a win against Bielsa’s high-flying Leeds.

“I actually had a goal disallowed against Leeds when I was with Barnsley last season – I was celebrating when I realised it hadn’t been given”, McBurnie told the club’s official website.

“My friends are Leeds fans, so they are looking forward to this one.

"Hopefully I’ll be the one smiling on Tuesday night though.

“I know a lot about the club because I was part of the youth set-up and I’m from the city”, McBurnie added.

Swansea are unbeaten in the league after three games, with wins over Sheffield United and Preston North End to go with their goalless draw at St. Andrews on Saturday.
