Stoke City manager Gary Rowett has admitted that he can understand the reason behind the booing from the fans, but insists that it does not help the team.

The Potters have failed to win a single league game since the former Derby County boss took charge at the club and they disappointed yet again during their 3-0 loss at home to Wigan Athletic on Wednesday night.

The fans seem to have lost their belief at the bet365 Stadium and some sections of the crowd were seen leaving early with the scoreline reading 3-0 by the end of 57 minutes.

Rowett, who has struggled to initiate the revival process at the club, admitted that he understands the frustration the fans are going through but also added that their booing will not help the team in any possible way.

"It was like hot potato out there at times because nobody wanted to take responsibility", Rowett told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I don't think booing substitutions or players individually necessarily helps, but I can understand it and I can't really complain about it.

"I'm sure it's an eye-opener for the club because the feeling was that we had a lot of good Premier League players that the Championship surely would be a lot easier for.

“That's now proven to probably be not correct", he added.

Stoke are currently 22nd in the Championship table after failing to win any of their first four league games and will now face Hull City on Saturday.
