Crystal Palace new boy Max Meyer believes the squad at Selhurst Park are as good as previous side Schalke, who finished second in Bundesliga last season.

Meyer left Schalke under acrimonious circumstances at the end of last season after he was ejected from the first team squad following his refusal to sign a new contract.

The Germany international was linked with moves to a number of clubs across Europe, but Crystal Palace managed to convince him to move to south London in the summer on a free transfer.

The midfielder made his debut for the Eagles as a substitute in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Monday night and has insisted that there is real quality in the Crystal Palace squad.

He is of the opinion that the Crystal Palace squad are as good if not better than Schalke at the moment.

The midfielder told German magazine Sport Bild: “We have a lot of quality and a strong squad.

“If you compare us with Schalke, we are just a strong or maybe even stronger.”

The German is enjoying life in London and admits that it is a lot different to living in Gelsenkirchen.

He said: “It is one of the best cities in Europe, if not the best.

“And is very different from Gelsenkirchen.”
