Rangers could be an option for Newcastle United outcast Rolando Aarons after it was made clear by Rafael Benitez that the winger needs to head out on loan.

Aarons, who made 14 appearances while on loan at Hellas Verona in Serie A last year, is yet to feature for the Magpies this season and has also been left out of the squad to face Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup tonight.

The 22-year-old is not expected to be part of the first team at St James Park this season and he is now being linked with a loan move away from Tyneside before deadline day on Friday.

According to Chronicle Live, Scottish Premiership side Rangers are believed to be a possible destination for Aarons, who looks destined to go out on loan yet again.

Benitez confirmed that the player will not remain at the club and has already suggested that there are a number of clubs interested in securing his services on a season-long deal.

“We have two or three teams interested in him. He will not be in the squad for Forest because I have to decide if he goes on loan”, Benitez said.

“Clearly it will be good for him. He’s not playing and he hasn’t played in the last year too much either.

“He has the potential to be a good player so he must play.

“The reason he’s not in the squad for Forest is because I have to give chances to the players that will stay here”, he added.

It remains to be seen if Aarons might make the move north of the border to Rangers.
