AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has insisted that his criticism of Chelsea loanee Tiemoue Bakayoko has been misrepresented.

Following a torrid spell at Chelsea, the Frenchman was loaned out to AC Milan for the rest of the season this summer and his time in Italy has not got off to the best of starts.

Bakayoko made his debut against Napoli on Saturday when he came on to the pitch with the Rossoneri two up, but they went on to lose 3-2 against the San Paolo outfit.

The Frenchman came in for heavy criticism from Gattuso and he indicated that there are deficiencies in the midfielder’s game which will take some time to weed out.

However, the AC Milan coach believes his words have been misrepresented and says he did not attack the player, but only said it will take time for him to settle down in Italy.

Speaking about Bakayoko, the Italian said in a press conference: “Things have to be properly reported in the press.

“I said that it will take time and I didn’t attack him.

“And it is my fault that I deployed him in a different role.”

Bakayoko is looking to rekindle his career in Italy and is hoping to impress at AC Milan, who have an option to sign him on a permanent deal from Chelsea.
