Celtic failed to get Moussa Dembele to agree to remain at the club on loan for six months before then moving to Lyon.

The Scottish champions are in the process of selling Dembele to Lyon after giving in to the player's demands to be allowed to join the French giants.

Dembele has been insistent that he wants to move to Lyon and Celtic, after initially telling the French club they would not sell on deadline day, have bent.

Celtic will earn €20m plus €2m in bonuses for Dembele, but it has emerged they wanted to keep him for another six months.

Indeed, according to French sports daily L'Equipe, Celtic proposed a solution and asked Dembele if he would stay until January on loan and then make the move to Lyon.

But Dembele rejected Celtic's proposal and reiterated his demand to be allowed to move now.

The Scottish champions have relented and are now selling the striker.

Lyon will register Dembele in their Champions League squad for this season.
