Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi has been spotted leaving Elland Road on crutches following the Whites' 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough.

There was nothing to separate the first and second placed sides in the Championship over 90 minutes of league action on Friday evening.

Swiss defender Berardi, who has been a regular in defence under new head coach Marcelo Bielsa, was forced off with two minutes left.

Berardi was replaced by Pontus Jansson.

And in a worry for Leeds, Berardi was spotted leaving Elland Road on crutches and with strapping on his right leg.

It remains to be seen how long the tough-tackling Swiss defender will be out of action for.

However, Leeds now head into the international break, meaning they are not again in action until a trip to Millwall on 15th September, something which allows the Whites time to get Berardi back up and running.

The draw against Middlesbrough means Leeds remain top of the Championship standings on goal difference.
