West Brom have failed with a late move to sign James Tavernier from Rangers on deadline day.

The Baggies are firm admirers of the Rangers right-back and following the sale of Nacer Chadli to Monaco, had their financial resources bolstered.

West Brom boss Darren Moore returned to the chase for Tavernier, whom he wanted before the closure of the permanent transfer window earlier this month.

They made an approach but, according to STV, Rangers let West Brom know that they would not consider selling Tavernier.

As such, Tavernier is staying put at Rangers.

The defender is Steven Gerrard's captain at Ibrox and highly rated by the Gers boss.

And following a summer of strengthening, Rangers were not prepared to see Tavernier leave on the final day of the transfer window in Scotland.

It remains to be seen if West Brom will come back to the table in the January transfer window.
