Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher claims that he can already see the traits of a Brendan Rodgers' team in Steven Gerrard's Rangers outfit.

Both Carragher and Gerrard played under Rodgers at Liverpool and the pair were impressed with the Northern Irishman's coaching methods, with the Reds going close to winning the Premier League.

Carragher makes no bones about the fact he rates current Celtic boss Rodgers as the best British coach working at present.

And the former Reds defender is in no doubt that Gerrard has taken traits from Rodgers into his first managerial job at Rangers.

Gerrard has his team pressing high in a 4-3-3 formation, something Carragher is sure is a page out of the Rodgers' playbook.

Carragher wrote in his Daily Telegraph column: "In my eyes, Brendan is the best British coach working today.

"He is the man Stevie must eclipse to fulfil managerial ambitions and many of his methods will be positively influencing training sessions at Rangers.

"You can see some of Rodgers’ ideas in the Rangers team. They prefer 4-3-3 and press high."

Rodgers and Gerrard will go head to head on Sunday when Rangers head to Celtic for the first Old Firm clash of the season, with the ex-Liverpool captain trying to outwit his former boss.
